Driving through Slovakia

drove to Slovakia for a few days of skiing with the Williams; the drive there took about 4 1/2 hours on what I guess are considered major roads, but there isn't a lot there. Pretty poor countryside. Made the kids think about their beautiful schools and what other kids have (or don't have). Still in Hungary here, and the town looks kind of busy.
Border crossing into Slovakia- trucks have to stop, but not cars.

The oldest profession is alive and well in Slovakia.

The playground of one of the local schools. Makes our budget problems seem small, huh?

We were amazed at how poor the towns looked. We were also thinking that there was no snow and maybe this was going to be a total bust. But then we get more into the mountains and the "touristy" area and things looked spruced up for the paying customers.
