I don't hate all kids; I just hate my kids

Really- they were both such a pain in the rear today....
We dragged them out of the house so they didn't just bicker all day, and basically they just took their show on the road. Annoying each other, poking at each other, complaining if we wanted to do something other than what they wanted to do (play at the park, eat ice cream, get soaked in the fountain and watch skateboarders). What I wouldn't give for a good babysitter right about now....

I have to admit the fountain was kind of cool. It was a wall of water, but as you walked toward it, a section would stop and you could actually walk into the fountain and not get wet (in theory. Unless you are a boy, in which case the whole point is to get wet, and so you have to walk fast enough that the fountain doesn't react quickly enough to shut down completely, and not so quickly that you parents yell at you for getting wet on purpose.) Things were going badly.

Where Eastern European hair color inspiration comes from.

There are many "faces" here in Budapest. Clearly, this one is  saying "What in the hell were you thinking?"

Then, while at the park, we did have a little cross cultural experience which distracted all of us from our respective "itchiness"  We found this cool sculpture (for lack of a better word). I think it's the urban equivalent of carving your name in a tree, a monument to lovers. We spent a lot of time reading the names and the initials and dates. It was really helpful- changed the tone of the afternoon and then afterward I didn't even mind watching the skateboarders and the trick riders quite so much.

Seeing this really did change my mood a little- the hopefulness of it wore off on me a bit too. Maybe this will be okay...

More Nagykovacsi Pics

More pics about town.
I wonder if the roof leaks...

The Trendl Haz- local restaurant, serving goulash and other Hungarian specialities. This is right across from the bus stop, and when it was warmer, they had an outdoor ice cream stand. After we got off the bus I'd buy the kids an ice cream for the walk up the hill.

The "old church"- right next to the Trendal Haz and the center of Tisza Istvan Ter (Steven Tisza Square)

I know it seems a bit morbid, but the cemetery here is kind of cool.

Google translate says "Biting Dog". These kinds of signs are on almost every gate.

Here's another one- something about the premises under watch.

The local Organic food store

This handsome guy reminds me of that cartoon "Foghorn Leghorn"

And here are some of my favorite Hungarian dogs:

This is Dorca-- she loves us.

This one is just like the dog on the bottle of wine I bought--

When I was in high school, if my friends and I didn't like the color of something, we would say "colors not found in nature" with a teenager's dismissive roll of our eyes.  I was thinking about it with regards to the hair pictures I posted before. But then the more I looked around me, I realized these colors WERE found in nature- and so I wanted to take back my mental eye roll---
